On Sunday 23rd September, over 100 people
gathered at the former River Police Station, on Erith’s waterfront to
celebrate the official opening of Erith Rowing Club’s new premises.
Members past and present listened avidly, as the club’s longest
serving member, Alf Botterill reminisced about the club’s beginning in
1943 and officially declared the new club house open. Mr Botterill
suggested that with the new permanent facilities, Erith Rowing Club now
had a great opportunity to build its membership and encourage the youth
of the area into the great Olympic sport.

|
There was call for further
celebration as the club officially unveiled and christened a brand new
rowing boat, that the club had recently purchased with the assistance of
a £1250 donation from Capita. Mary Swan, Capita’s director, was on
hand to give a few words of encouragement and officially christen the
new double scull “Capita Blades”.
Erith Rowing Club are currently looking to recruit members of all
abilities and would encourage anyone interested to take a look at their
website www.erithrowingclub.co.uk,
or to contact the Captain, Jane Axam on 07834400086.
