The amount of time devoted to training is completely up to the individual
member. Members may want different things from their membership of Erith
Rowing Club from a light-hearted social pastime to a serious competitive
sports pursuit. Your level of training will then naturally develop from
how much you wish to gain from rowing.
The club sets aside four days a week for rowing/training; Tuesday and
Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings although access to the
clubhouse and the rowing machines is year round. During the spring and
summer months training is focused on the water and during the autumn and
winter months weekday training moves indoors to the clubhouse gym due to
the short daylight hours. The winter weekday training sessions are used to
increase fitness and stamina, which are vital if you wish to compete in
races through the year. The water-based sessions will hone technique and
improve fitness. |
Land based weekday training consists of circuit training and rowing
machine sessions to improve rowing fitness. You can actually do as little
or as much as you want, however if you want to improve your fitness our
coach can suggest a suitable exercise programme for you.
For water based training
the Club use Danson Lake or the River Thames at Erith. Beginners will
learn on the lake and move on to the river in time. Initially you will
learn the basic techniques and gain confidence with some coaching in a
one-person boat. As your technique and balance improves you can then try
rowing (one oar per person) or continue sculling (two oars per person).
Erith Rowing Club own a
number of different boats from single sculls up to a fours/quads. If you
prefer team sports Erith Rowing Club will have a boat and a crew for
you. If individual sports are more your style Erith has single sculls and
coaches available to provide encouragement and technical advice. |
